Document Crunch adds AI review for construction drawings

CrunchAI compares drawings, contracts and specifications to identify scope gaps and conflicting requirements before construction begins.

Document Crunch, a Trimble company, announced project-level risk intelligence capabilities that allow contractors to review construction drawings alongside contracts, specifications and other project documents. Using CrunchAI technology, project teams can search and query complete document sets to identify scope gaps, conflicting requirements and potential risks.

Reviewing project risk across documents

General-purpose AI models may have difficulty processing large, text-heavy drawing sheets and connecting requirements across multiple project documents. This can make it difficult to identify conflicts and gaps between drawings, contracts and specifications.

CrunchAI is designed for construction workflows and extracts and indexes text from drawing sets, including notes, allowances and scope-related language distributed across multiple sheets. Through a chat interface, users can query drawings, contracts and specifications together, investigate scope gaps and conflicting requirements and verify responses using citations linked to source documents.

CrunchAI uses pre- and post-processing methods with agentic optimization to generate responses for construction workflows. The shared project environment includes security and collaboration features that allow teams to discuss identified issues, track review activities and monitor how risks are addressed. Teams can also transfer findings into standardized reviews and assign follow-up and resolution tasks.

Supporting preconstruction review

By analyzing drawing sets within the context of other project documents, Document Crunch enables teams to:

  • Review bid sets: Check sheet indexes, identify missing sheets or specification sections and flag discrepancies between disciplines during preconstruction.
  • Identify document conflicts: Compare drawings with contracts and specifications to find conflicting requirements, scope gaps and unclear responsibilities.
  • Standardize reviews: Apply consistent company checks to drawing sets and related project documents across teams.
  • Address issues before construction: Resolve requirements and scope questions before contract award to reduce the number of unresolved issues carried into project execution.

Availability

Document Crunch’s construction drawings review capability is available to all users. It allows teams to review drawings alongside contracts, specifications and other project documents within existing Document Crunch workflows.
