Stratasys Ltd. has announced the launch of the F870 FDM system, a large-format additive manufacturing platform for industrial manufacturers, automotive OEMs and aerospace and defense production operations. The system is designed to support production applications on the factory floor.
The F870 extends Stratasys’ production-grade FDM portfolio with a heated chamber, industrial materials and a focus on production-support applications. Manufacturers can use the system to produce tooling, fixtures, manufacturing aids and end-use parts while evaluating additive manufacturing for different production requirements.
Manufacturers including Toyota Production Engineering in Georgetown, Kentucky and Rivian Automotive in Plymouth, Michigan are evaluating the platform. Their assessments include factory-floor tooling, manufacturing aids and prototyping applications ahead of commercial availability.
Early deployments focus on automotive tooling, manufacturing aids and other production-support applications. These include large fixtures, assembly tools and inspection gauges that may otherwise require extended machining lead times.
The F870 has a build volume of 1,000 × 610 × 610 mm (39.4 × 24 × 24 in.) and a heated chamber. Compatible materials include Nylon 12CF, ASA, ABS and FDM ABS Draft in gray. Nylon 12CF Carbon Fiber is designed for tooling and fixture applications that require strength, stiffness and durability. The platform supports the production of large tooling, fixtures, manufacturing aids and end-use parts for factory-floor applications.

Built on Stratasys’ FDM platform, the F870 adds a large-format system to the company’s production-focused additive manufacturing portfolio. It is intended to help manufacturers evaluate additive manufacturing for production support and other manufacturing applications.
