The new cloud-based tool automates component selection, cable sizing, and documentation for IEC-compliant electrical design.

Siemens has expanded the TIA Selection Tool Cloud with a new feature called “Electrical Designer” for electrical planning. The software applies IEC standards and incorporates basic electrical data and design rules to reduce manual research and calculations. Electrical Designer supports main circuit design by automatically selecting components, verifying short-circuits, sizing cables, and generating the required documentation in a single process.
Electrical planners often face challenges when designing equipment for machines. Time constraints and caution can lead to the reuse of outdated plans or less efficient designs. Mechanical design data and documentation also often require rework to fit electrical design processes. Siemens’ Electrical Designer, part of the TIA Selection Tool Cloud, is intended to streamline this work by automating component selection, short-circuit verification, cable sizing, and documentation in accordance with IEC 60204-1. The software reduces manual calculations and supports collaboration through cloud-based access to up-to-date project data.
This development enhances Siemens’ capabilities in digital control panel design and supports more efficient engineering practices.
Key benefits:
- End-to-end short-circuit analysis: Electrical Designer provides verification of short-circuit resistance in accordance with IEC standards, covering the entire circuit from the individual load to the machine’s feed point.
- Complete machine design instead of individual calculations: If the software knows the loads for the machine, the tool automatically selects suitable switchgear, controls, and network components and generates parts lists and complete documentation.
- Up-to-date knowledge of standards: Electrical Designer automatically checks the requirements defined in the relevant standards (currently IEC 60204-1).
- Cloud-based and future-proof: As a completely browser-based solution, there is no need for installations and updates. Electrical Designer offers device-independent access at any time using the latest software, enables easy project transfer, and helps companies cut planning times in half. This increases scalability and ensures investment protection.
- Simulate and test load limits: Using flexible calculation logic, planners can model various short-circuit scenarios to adjust the electrical system to local grid conditions.
Electrical Designer is available free of charge to all TIA Selection Tool Cloud users. It will also be presented at the Smart Production Solutions (SPS) trade fair held from Nov. 25 to 27, 2025 in Nuremberg, Germany. The Siemens booth will be in Hall 11.
