Octopart adds design context with Octopart Discover

New platform will be shown at embedded world and is designed to work with CAD, PLM and partner data sources.

Octopart, an Altium company, introduced Octopart Discover, a new version of Octopart designed to add design intent and system context to solution discovery. The platform is intended to help engineers move beyond part searches to identifying and evaluating solutions that fit broader system requirements. Octopart Discover will be shown at Booth 3A-415 during embedded world.

Built as an open platform, Octopart Discover incorporates information from partners across the electronics ecosystem into the context of a user’s design. Starting with system intent, including functional blocks, constraints and requirements, it narrows the range of options to those that match the application.

Bringing intent and context into discovery

With Octopart Discover, engineers start by defining the system and linking discovery to design requirements rather than keywords. Options are then filtered based on their fit with the architecture, while prior decisions and constraints are carried through the process.

As engineers search, compare and refine options, Octopart Discover retains that context so results stay aligned with earlier choices. When requirements change, users can adjust inputs without starting over.

By staying connected to design context, Octopart Discover supports earlier decision-making in development, when architectures, constraints and tradeoffs are being defined. This is also the stage when cost, performance and reliability targets are often set.

The result is a discovery process that extends beyond a component database by incorporating design context into early-stage evaluation.

An evolution of Octopart

Octopart has long served as a source of component data for engineers and procurement professionals, helping them search for parts and review sourcing information.

That need remains, but electronics development has changed. Systems have become more complex. Supply chains have become less predictable. Lifecycle, availability and pricing constraints now affect decisions earlier in the process. Early design choices can also have broader downstream effects.
