IronCAD 2027 update adds design automation tools

The release adds AI-assisted scripting, sheet metal catalog reuse and updated CAD translators for major formats.

IronCAD announced the availability of IronCAD 2027 Product Update 1. The release adds updates to AI-assisted design automation, sheet metal workflows, piping, drafting, feature recognition and file interoperability for industrial equipment and machinery design, metal fabrication and mechanical engineering teams. It is intended to support movement from concept models to production data with fewer manual steps and less rework.

Key features and updates in IronCAD 2027 Product Update 1 include:

  • AI Design Assistant improvements, including AI script generation for design automation
The AI Design Assistant now provides added support for AI-assisted script generation. Users can use natural-language prompts to generate scripts that automate repeated modeling tasks, configure components from catalog data including metadata, parameters, materials and Smart Attachments and support design automation workflows.
  • Shrink Wrap command ignores hidden parts
When creating a shrink-wrapped model of an assembly, hidden parts are excluded from the resulting geometry. This can produce smaller files based on visible components and simplify sharing with customers or manufacturing partners.
  • Improved feature recognition import options
Imported models can be converted into editable IronCAD features faster, with updated recognition algorithms that support a wider range of geometry. Users can enable feature recognition during import or convert imported geometry later through the Interaction menu.
  • Redesigned sheet metal fold/unfold structure (test only)
Sheet metal parts can use an optional three-level structure: Assembly → Sheet Metal Part → Feature. This keeps folded and flat views under a single part node and is available as a test option through a registry setting.
  • Save sheet metal features to catalogs
Sheet metal features, including combinations of bends, holes and edge rounds, can be dragged into catalogs for reuse in other projects. This supports standardized libraries of common feature sets for similar parts.
  • Flexible pipe and construction lines in the piping module
The piping command now supports flexible pipes using a spline path and can include construction curves in the route path. This gives designers more options when laying out fluid systems, process piping and industrial utilities.
  • Copy or move drawing views across sheets in ICD
Drawing views can be copied or moved to another existing sheet or to a new sheet based on the default template. Section, detail and auxiliary views can be moved individually, with prompts to help preserve parent-child relationships.
  • Checkbox selection for part and assembly in standard view creation
When generating standard projected views, checkboxes allow users to select which parts or components appear in the new views. This can reduce manual cleanup in large machinery assemblies.
  • Section cut settings across views in DRAFT
Secondary drawing views can inherit section-cut details such as cutting plane definition and depth from the parent view. This helps keep section views consistent across a drawing set.
  • Native CAD file translator update
The Native CAD Translator Add-on now supports updated versions of major formats including CATIA V5, Creo, NX, Inventor, SolidWorks and Solid Edge. This lets teams open newer customer, supplier and partner models without intermediate conversion steps.

Bug fixes and stability improvements

The update includes fixes and stability improvements related to large assemblies, sheet metal, drawings, linking, dimensions, export and other workflows.

IronCAD 2027 Product Update 1 is available to eligible IronCAD Design Collaboration Suite users through IronCAD Live Update or by download from the IronCAD website.
