Why does the earth rotate counter-clockwise on its axis?

Whether it roates clockwise or counter clockwise depends on your perspective. If you are looking down on our solar system from the north pole’s side, the planet spins on its axis in a couter-clockwise direction. If you’re looking at our solar system from the other side, it rotates in a clockwise direction. Same applies to the earth’s rotation around the sun… if you are looking from “under” or “over” the plane of the solar system, it’s opposite. No matter what your frame of reference is, the way the earth rotates is due to gravitational forces.
