Roland DG announced the launch of the TrueVis MG2 Series, a UV printer/cutter range comprising the 64-inch MG2-640 and 30-inch MG2-300. The series combines print and cutting capabilities with increased productivity, print quality, application options and features intended to reduce operating costs.
Roland DG’s TrueVis MG2 Series UV printer/cutters are designed to support higher production volumes, high-resolution imaging, automated workflows and maintenance functions. The systems are intended to help print businesses produce a range of applications while managing operating costs.
As demand increases for customized print applications, print service providers need to balance output quality, production efficiency and operating costs. The MG2 Series is designed to support applications beyond conventional signage and graphics while providing faster production and integrated print and cut capabilities.
Approximately twice the productivity
The MG2 Series uses a newly developed printhead with waveform control technology. According to Roland DG, the combination provides approximately twice the productivity of the previous MG Series. The increased print speeds can help users increase daily output and reduce turnaround times.
Workflow automation and maintenance functions are also designed to support continuous production and reduce downtime.
Expanded color gamut and image quality
The MG2 Series includes image processing features such as improved ink placement accuracy, Variable Dot Technology and True Rich Color print settings. These features are designed to support detailed graphics, smooth gradations and consistent color reproduction.
In addition to standard CMYK inks, optional Orange and Red inks expand the available color gamut and increase Pantone color coverage. This can help users reproduce brand colors with greater accuracy. True Rich Color technology is designed to balance vivid color reproduction with skin tones and neutral grays.
Applications beyond traditional signage
The MG2 Series supports UV printing applications including window graphics, backlit displays, stickers, labels, packaging prototypes, promotional materials and decorative graphics.
Single-pass multi-layer printing allows up to five layers to be printed simultaneously using combinations of CMYK, White and Gloss inks. This enables users to combine full-color printing with white undercoats, gloss finishes and textured or embossed effects.
Printing multiple layers in a single pass eliminates the need to reverse-feed media between layers. This can reduce the risk of misalignment and media jams while supporting consistent results. An integrated take-up system allows the MG2-640 and MG2-300 to support continuous multi-layer production and unattended operation, including overnight printing.
Different layer configurations can be selected based on the application. The systems also include 72 built-in texture libraries for creating decorative effects and different types of printed products.
Integrated print and cut
The MG2 Series includes integrated print and cut functionality, allowing users to print and contour cut within a single workflow.
The systems are also compatible with Roland DG and Graphtec cutting devices, providing additional options for configuring production workflows. A redesigned take-up system helps keep media off the floor during print and cut operations and can reduce the need for operator intervention.
Lower running costs and operational efficiency
The MG2 Series includes features intended to reduce operating costs and simplify production.
The systems use 1,000-ml ink pouches, which can reduce the frequency of ink replacement and help manage ink-related operating costs. Automated media setup and calibration features simplify machine preparation. Direct Print functionality allows users to send printing tasks directly from the device.
The MG2 Series also includes maintenance features such as an automatic fabric wiper. The system is designed to help maintain print quality while reducing routine maintenance work.
Roland DG software ecosystem
The MG2 Series integrates with Roland DG’s software ecosystem. VersaWorks 7 RIP software provides color management and production controls. Roland DG Connect provides remote device monitoring, production analytics and business information that can be used to monitor machine and production performance.
Supporting UV printing applications
The MG2 Series is intended for sign makers, print service providers, display graphics companies, label producers and packaging converters.
