New features support material distribution checks, color mapping and cross-section analysis before machining begins.
FARO CREAFORM, a business of AMETEK, Inc. and provider of 3D scanning and portable CMM solutions, announced the launch of casting inspection enhancements for its CAM2 software platform. The software supports dimensional inspections against 2D drawings and 3D CAD models, including GD&T analysis. The latest release expands compatibility with FARO hardware by adding FARO CREAFORM handheld 3D scanners to its existing support for FaroArm portable CMMs and Vantage Laser Trackers.
The enhancements allow users to combine scanning and inspection technologies within a unified software environment. The platform also supports automated repeat inspection workflows and inspection report generation for manufacturers in industries such as automotive, aerospace, heavy equipment, energy and general manufacturing.
The updates are designed to help manufacturers verify material distribution in critical casting areas before machining. CAM2 enables users to position, analyze and validate casting data digitally, helping identify potential issues before machining and supporting decisions based on inspection results.
The three primary enhancements include a new Smart Alignment workflow with Advanced Best Fit Alignment and material distribution optimization, enhanced color mapping tools and cross-section analysis.
The Smart Alignment workflow helps users position scan data against CAD models during casting inspections. It includes Advanced Best Fit Alignment and material distribution optimization to support the evaluation of complex castings before machining.
The updated color mapping tools help users visualize and compare inspection results. The tools also support sharing inspection information across teams.
The new cross-section analysis capabilities allow users to examine internal casting features virtually, supporting the evaluation of areas that may be difficult to inspect externally.
Together, these enhancements extend CAM2’s casting inspection capabilities from data alignment and validation through analysis and reporting. The workflows help manufacturers assess casting conditions before machining and use inspection data to support production decisions.
