I sort of stumbled into it. A high school counsellor recommended engineering due to my skills in math. Then while in junior college I toured the engineering department at a state university and loved what I saw in the engineering labs so I decided I wanted to go into mechanical engineering.

For me that question is easy. Look at my Avatar. That little person holding a graham cracker is ME. I am 7 months old, I am standing in the middle of a lab at MIT where my father was a graduate student in Electrical Engineering.
I have been an engineering since I can remember and got my BSME in 1978. I can not think of a career I would like better.
I really LIVE and BREATH this stuff.

It took 2 years for me to commit to Engineering. A friend of mine inspired me to take the risk, to give up business management and to commit to the Calculus, the puzzles, the creativity of solving problems. It was the best decision ever made! It was hard, I was starting college again when most of my friends were more than half done. I lost a lot of sleep when hitting the books. But I wanted so much to learn and nothing worth having is easy. So for me, engineering is both the hardest, and most rewarding decision of my life.

I got inspiration from my father. He was also in the technical field and I saw him working very hard to know the things as he wasn't a qualified engineer but had very good technical skills and therefore I had decided to make my career as an engineer.
