ZWSOFT Enters the CFD Market Via Acquisition

A U.K.-based CFD developer will be added to ZWSOFT’s all-in-one CAx solution.

ZWSOFT, a producer of CAx solutions, has announced the acquisition of U.K.-based CFD software specialists Concentration, Heat and Momentum (CHAM). CHAM’s general purpose CFD software, PHOENICS, is set to improve ZWSOFT’s multidisciplinary and multiphysics simulation portfolio. With this acquisition, ZWSOFT also enters the CFD market.

“The CHAM acquisition complements our simulation portfolio, taking us another step closer to realizing our vision of providing reliable all-in-one CAx solutions to worldwide users,” said Wenjun Tan, director of CFD Software at ZWSOFT. “With the addition of PHOENICS, our simulation products can better meet the complicated and diverse needs of our customers, enabling them to reduce costs and increase efficiency through realizing simulation-driven design.”

CHAM was started in 1974 by professor D. B. Spalding, a pioneer in the CFD and computational heat transfer world. CHAM moved on to become a notable consultancy and software provider focusing on CFD and heat transfer simulations. It released PHOENICS in 1981.

PHOENICS is used in various industries including machinery, electronics, automotive, architecture, transportation and energy. It also has big name commercial and research users, including Pfizer and the University of Cambridge.

With the acquisition of CHAM, ZWSOFT gains the company’s specialized modules for two-phased flow, chemical vapor deposition, HVAC and medical flow analysis. It also gains API technology to connect PHOENICS to CAD programs, PARSOL grid generation and flexible user-defined function technology. CHAM has over 20 turbulence models to assess scenarios ranging from combustion to radiation. CHAM source code and research teams are also joining ZWSOFT.
