Would a Macbook be a bad choice for a chemical engineering college student?
I am trying to decide which laptop to buy for college and I was leaning towards a macbook, but I was wondering if it would be better to go with windows.

The decision as to what operating systems you computer should use should be based only on the software you will be using on that computer. Unfortunately most of the software you will be using during your engineering studies will be Windows or Linux based software.
Yes, Mac OS does have emulator with the ability run other software, but in general they software does not run as fast and efficient as on the platform it was designed to work on.
Before you decide look at all the software you will be expected to use as a student and decide base on what OS it is happiest on.
