Work Pays Off for Daytona Speedway Racing Team

The Richard Childress racing team won the 2009 Daytona Budweiser Shootout. It attributes much of their success to using PTC’s Pro/Engineer software for car design, engineering, and manufacturing.

The software was used to assemble and move the chassis suspension mechanism to check for proper travel and clearance issues. All structural analyses for critical components such as spindles, lower control arms, and seat belt mounts were performed using Pro/Engineer. The software was also used to help the racing team reduce component weight while maintaining strength. Designers used Pro/Engineer to create the CNC program for each part which helped them make changes without requiring the programmer to reprogram the entire part.
