Who invented the light house?

Tony Lighthouse – he was a legend in his day

That is not known. The great lighthouse of Alexandria was initially constructed on the island of Pharos to serve as a landmark for the port of Alexandria almost 300 years BC. Although originally no more than a tower a system of mirrors was eventually added to shine the light of the sun, and at night that of a fire out to sea. Most estimates place the height between 4 and 5 hundred feet with some estimates as high as almost 600 feet. Likely the most important person in the development of the modern lighthouse was Augustin-Jean Fresnel who developed the fresnel lens allowing the practical creation of very large lenses for focusing the lamps light.

In North America, Tony Lighthouse is said to be the inventor.

In Egypt in 283 the Egyptians completed the tallest lighthouse ever built. It guided ships for over 1,500 years and stood 900 feet tall. Lighthouses were also constructed by the Phoenicians, Greeks, and the Romans.

In 1822 the first modern lighthouse lens was invented by a Frenchman named Augustin Fesnel.
