What is the recommended corrosion allowance to be get added in pressure vessel design if the
for SS 304 & MS as per ASME standards
Does it depends on the working fluid ?
i req it for Hot Water which may be Soft or Hard
Pl let me know
The corrosion allowance shall be calculated based on the corrosion rate that is a function of operating conditions, type of fluid…
Usually a max of 6 mm is specified for carbon steel.
For Stainless Steel usually no corrosion allowance is specified ’cause it’s considered that is not subjet to general corrosion..

Dear Sandy,
Its all depend upon type of fluid, design parameters & type of corrosion.
For thinning-corrosion prevention you can add some thickness, but for that you need to have corrosion rate & designed life of vessel.
Please refer API-581 appendix:G to have better understanding about thinning & corrosion.
