The hot spot theory for blasting and explosives basically states that blasts initiation starts a locations of high temperature and high pressure with in the chemical system that is exploding [1]. The article referenced gives a lot more detail on the process.
This hot spot theory different than that for volcanoes as noted by Melvin, but the some of the same basic thermodynamic process govern both.
