What is the difference between a helical gear and a spiral gear?

I want to Know the Clear difference Difference between Helical gear and spiral gear.. because they look alike so it is difficult for me to differentiate between the them…….
Any help would be appreciated.

@david …. Thanks 🙂 I appreciate your response.

With the spiral gear would you be reference to a spiral bevel gear?
If so then a quick google search show that difference is that the spiral bevel gear has the contact area angled rather than parallel to the gear shaft.

Helical gears connect two parallel shafts, while Spiral gears can connect two skew shafts (shafts that are neither parallel nor intersecting). Geometrically, Helical gears are a slice of a cylinder while Spiral gears are slices of a Hyperboloid (a surface you get by revolving a hyperbola). Here is a video I’ve created on Spiral gear geometry. I can make one on Helical gears too if needed.

Helical gears are much more robust and can handle greater loads.
