What is the difference between ‘2 miles squared’ & ‘2 square miles’?

What is the difference between '2 miles squared' & '2 square miles'?

2 square miles is a square with sides of 2 miles. 2 miles squared might be the same thing. But I would need some context. There might not even be a difference.

2 square miles

2 miles squared means a square with the same length and width of 2 miles each side (perimeter 8 miles). 2 square miles means an area of 2 square miles

2 square miles

They can’t be subtracted as one is a distance and the other is an area. 2 miles squared is 4 miles which is a distance. 2 sqaure miles is an area equivalent to two square miles.

Im going to say that two miles squared is 4 miles, and that 2 square miles is an area of a square with the sides equal to 2 miles long each.

i dont know

no difference,if the 2 miles squared is starting off with 2 linear miles, and then squaring them, then it’s the same as 2 square miles.because 2 square miles is 2 miles in a straight line then at a right angle is another 2 miles.

2miles squared = a distance of 4 miles; 2 square miles = a square with sides of length square root 2.

Well, If you count, or think a bit, you’ll see that 10 miles square is actually 100 square miles, ten times as much as 10 square miles. Words like “square” and “squared” can be tricky, which is why in math we use symbols rather than words, so we can make it clear exactly what we mean. If you’ve seen how we write “squared numbers” in math, this can be written as (10 miles)2 = 100 (miles ) (10 miles) squared = 100 (square miles) _2

2 miles squared can be looked uponb as the instruction for calculating the total area of the square which is 2 miles by 2 miles. In this case the area arrived at is 4 square miles. 2 square miles is the area but could be made up of any number of shapes, such as 1 mile by 2 miles (2×1 = 2 square miles)

I’m not sure whether there’s a difference between the two but….

It depends on where the parenthesis would go in the algebraic form. (2 miles)^2 is 4 miles^2, or 4 sqare miles, but 2 (miles)^2 is 2 square miles.

2 miles squared is 4 square miles
