What are the relief angles and the rake angles ?
The relief angle on a machine tool is the angle edge of the tool nearest the work piece (part being machined) makes with the work piece. That face is usual tilted away from the work piece – Positive relief angle
The rake angle is the angle between the front or cutting face of the tool and a line perpendicular to the work piece. A positive angle tilts that face away from the cutting edge. A negative angle tilts that face towards the cutting edge.
The values of the relief and rake angles effects how the tool cuts into a particular material and the type or size of chip produced.
