3D Systems Corp. has begun commercial shipments of its V-Flash™ Desktop Modeler. Priced at $9,900, this device builds three-dimensional models in hours in home or office, enabling designers, engineers, hobbyists and students to imagine, design and build their ideas at their desks.

The office-friendly 3-D Printer uses Film Transfer Imaging (FTI) technology. Through computer-aided design (CAD), the device transforms .stl (file format) designs into solid plastic models that can be used for demonstration, testing and verification the same day.

Through an intelligent, low-waste materials cartridge that also houses the wear parts of the printer, the Modeler builds strong, durable prototypes with excellent surface quality and feature detail. Build volume is up to 486 cubic inches (1234.4 cm) for production of multiple models simultaneously without significant impact to the Z-height build speed. The finished model can be sanded, painted, drilled, metal-plated or glued.

It is bundled with Alibre Design™ Software and other accessories.
