True Shape Nesting helps improve additive manufacturing workflow

Link3D, a New York-based additive manufacturing software company, announced several new tools to better equip organizations that use additive manufacturing. The team is unveiling True Shape Nesting as a major enhancement to its suite of additive manufacturing workflow software features.

True Shape Nesting is part of Link3D’s Build Simulation software, which powers auto-quoting, production planning and machine scheduling of additively manufactured parts. Link3D’s Build Simulation software will estimate production time and material usage based on 500+ industrial 3D printers across 1000 materials in relationship to their parameters.

“As Link3D prepares for the future of Additive Manufacturing, it is our belief that series production will ramp up at an extreme pace. To understand true production cost and achieve optimized production planning, MES toolsets need to become more agile to dynamically plan and increase throughout. As a team, which understands what it takes for organizations to prepare for series production, we have spent over the last 18 months in R&D and understand the need for an API-based True Shape Nesting solution that can be used beyond just build preparation for costing and planning.” says Shane Fox, CEO of Link3D.

True Shape Nesting enables Multi Jet Fusion and SLS technologies to uncover the best nesting strategy based on the actual shape. 2D True Shape Nesting is used presently by FDM and Laser Powder Base Technologies. Depending on the use cases, customers of Link3d can adjust True Shape Nesting to use any orientation for parts, including around the Z-axis.

“Link3D’s production planning tool is developed for companies that adopt serial production with additive manufacturing. With shape-based nesting, Link3D will help additive manufacturing facility operations maximize machine use, understand the number of machine runs needed to fulfill an order and reduce the manual effort with build preparation. It will help our customers reduce cost and drive production efficiency,” shares Vishal Singh, CTO of Link3D.
