Mazak TOOLTECH compact tool magazine
Mazak’s new TOOLTECH compact tool magazine stores big, heavy and large-diameter tools in a small amount of floor space.
Its special tool carts and docking stations eliminate the need for operators to manually lift tools in and out of the system, making tooling setups faster, easier and safer.
TOOLTECH accommodates up to 206 tools in the same amount of space required for a 120-tool chain-type magazine storage system. This economical use of space results from the fact that TOOLTECH efficiently organizes tools according to their lengths and diameters and stores them in racks – one type designated for tools with diameters bigger than 100 mm, the other for diameters less than that size.
With its carts and docking station, TOOLTECH ensures easy and safe handling of tools with diameters up to 14” (360 mm), lengths to 31” (800 mm) and weighing as much as 88 lbs (40 kg). Operators can roll one of TOOLTECH’s tool carts to where the shop’s tools are stored, place any needed tools onto the cart and push it directly into the storage system’s magazine tool-docking station where the tools load into racks.
As a shop’s tooling needs increase, TOOLTECH’s storage capacity can expand – to as many as five levels and the capacity to hold 250 tools – with a simple extension of its frame at the rear of the system.

Nordson EFD OptiMixer Static Mixer
Nordson EFD, a precision fluid dispensing systems manufacturer, recently introduced their new OptiMixer.
The two-component disposable square static mixer is designed for process control and dispensing two-part materials, to improve product quality in assembly and repair processes in automotive, aerospace, construction, maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) industries.
It features a patent-pending design that is 20 percent shorter than comparable mixers on the market, enabling operators to work closer to the application for more precise, repeatable dispensing of two-component sealants and adhesives. This design results in 30 percent less retained fluid, reducing material waste while increasing quality and productivity.
OptiMixer can be attached to most large volume (> 200 ml) multi-ratio cartridges, including EFD’s u-TAH, Side x Side, and Coaxial cartridges. Its innovative design makes it ideal for a range of applications, including:
- Dent and bumper repair
- Chemical anchoring
- Panel bonding
- Gasketing
- Insulation
- Crack injection
- Undercoating
- Installing fixture fasteners
“Using proprietary fluid simulation software, we have optimized the mixing capability of our new static mixer in a much shorter length without compromising performance,” said Anthony Martucci, global product line manager, Nordson EFD.

SCS Precisioncoat Tool Changer
Specialty Coating Systems (SCS) has recently introduced the new SCS Precisioncoat Tool Changer – a flexible, advanced coating feature on SCS’ Precisioncoat V platform.
The motor-driven 5-axis system is capable of selecting and hanging up to five valves or tools within a single program profile with programmable 0-360° rotation and ± 0-45° tilt. Because multiple heads are combined into one system, the SCS Precisioncoat boasts a full 22.5″ (571 mm) x 21″ (533 mm) work area on every valve.
The SCS Precisioncoat also has pass-through height measuring 5″ on top and bottom.
The SCS Precisioncoat Tool Changer makes it easier to quickly pick up an active valve or tool, drop it off and pick up another. This can be done with up to five valves within the same program with no operator intervention while maintaining the unit’s large work area.

Sensuron Summit
Sensuron, a global provider of compact fiber optic sensing (FOS) systems, recently announced the launch of Summit, a fiber optic sensing platform to provide fully distributed sensing with the ability to combine multiple measurement technologies into a single platform.
Suitable for design, test, mechanical and stress applications across the automotive, aerospace and energy industries, Summit allows engineers to replace a number of measurement technologies, like strain gauges and thermocouples with a single platform.
The Summit platform benefits include:
- More Data – The data density provided by fully distributed sensing capabilities offers a comprehensive look at the health of an application, enhancing model validation.
- Greater Sensing Length – The Summit platform offers over 2.6 times more sensing length than comparable alternatives.
- Adjustability – Unlike other FOS systems, the sensor starts where you want it to so you don’t have to lose sensing length to get the fiber to your application.
- Flexibility – With multi-sensing capabilities and real-time access to data, Summit can be embedded in first-to-market applications
- Multi-Sensing – Summit can simultaneously monitor strain, temperature, deflection, 3D shape, liquid level and magnetic fields on multiple channels.
Upgrades can be added at any time, so if an additional project has different requirements, customers can adapt their system to better meet their needs. Customers can upgrade the speed or sensing length of their systems as well as purchase deflection and 3D shape sensing capabilities.
Other benefits of Summit include over 1000 sensors per fiber, the ability to multiplex all channels simultaneously, and the ease of cutting new lengths of fiber for additional projects compared to ordering custom fiber.
Summit is now available for purchase worldwide through the Sensuron website.
