The One Shot Curve

If you’re doing linework in the field, you don’t need to shoot PC’s, PT’s, and a point on a curve. Shoot two points on line (anywhere along each tangent) to establish direction, and shoot a single point on curve. Civil 3D will figure out the rest, and accurately draw the curve.

This example PNEZD (comma delimited) file shows an example of the shot sequence:

1,1054.9257,1032.0837,0.0000,POL
2,1069.6072,1032.0837,0.0000,POL
3,1087.6065,1034.4562,0.0000,POL POC
4,1101.9764,1060.1659,0.0000,POL
5,1101.9764,1082.0837,0.0000,POL

Notice the image below, however. The POL (Point On Line) shots were not taken at PC’s and PT’s, and the POC (Point On Curve) was not taken at any special location along the curve, yet the figure is properly drawn in Civil 3D.
