Alibre recently announced that its Design Expert software includes a new element called the “Moment of Inspiration” (MoI). According to the company, it added MoI into the existing 3D software, to help its customers quickly and easily model an idea on the spot.

With Alibre Design Expert’s import filters and MoI’s export options, you can open native files from almost any CAD system and export them as an OBJ file with fine-tuned control over tessellation for optimizing the file size.

With MoI, you can design an item and then export it as a STEP file to bring it into Alibre Design where you can add mechanical components. Or, you can design an item in Alibre Design and export it to MoI for quick and elegant additions that give your product aesthetic appeal.

The combination of software packages also provides a gateway for other 3D CAD programs, such as Solidworks, Inventor, and Pro/E, enabling their native CAD models to be brought into Blender, SketchUp, Maya, and any other rendering or game development platform that supports OBJ files. SketchUp output is also supported.
