The company expands its photorealistic rendering portfolio for software developers.
Tech Soft 3D has acquired Redway3D in a transaction that is consistent with Tech Soft’s strategy to invest in product development and grow its global presence. Redway3D both does product development and has a global presence. In addition, the acquisition will expand the Tech Soft 3D product portfolio.
“Adding the REDsdk technology to our portfolio addresses a need many of our partners have for advanced, photo-realistic visualization and rendering, which is an area in which we will continue investing,” said Ron Fritz, CEO of Tech Soft 3D.
Tech Soft 3D is best known for its HOOPS software development kit (SDK), which is used by Autodesk, Dassault Systèmes (SOLIDWORKS), Adobe and other companies with a need to present in 3D. Hoops Visualize is a high-performance engineering-focused SDK for rendering 3D models on desktops, mobile devices and augmented reality/virtual reality (AR/VR) devices. This 3D graphics library uses the latest 3D GPU capabilities.
“HOOPS Visualize software development kit (SDK) empowers your team to quickly develop desktop, mobile and AR/VR applications with a graphics engine designed to render 2D & 3D models in engineering, manufacturing and building and construction applications,” according to the Tech Soft 3D website.
Redway3D is like Tech Soft 3D in that the company provides a platform to build upon for 3D visualization. You will find its products used in CAD, CAM, BIM and kitchen bathroom design. The strength of the REDsdk is true photorealistic rendering (leveraging ray tracing) delivered for the immersive experience. According to the website, Redway3D is the only middleware vendor offering a single engine for high-quality photorealism in real time.
Redway3D provides the “graphics middleware that powers engineering and design software.”
What’s there not to like about the REDsdk? It’s single compact object-orientated C++ API that can be used to control the graphics of an application: graphic data management, visualization layout, material and lighting setup, application interaction and rendering. Natively integrated into REDsdk are two distinct rendering technologies: an OpenGL-based hardware accelerated (GPU) engine and a software-based technique based on progressive refinement ray tracing.
REDsdk works as a high-level API with a built-in rendering pipeline and data production workflow or as a low-level engine with a lot of detailed features. The integrated multicore ray tracing takes advantage of all available CPU cores. Before image processing is complete, REDsdk’s software ray tracing presents precise scene feedback. It supplies the best user experience thanks to its hardware accelerated OpenGL layer stability, as well as its patented data organization methods that improve system speed. In other words, it’s fast!.
With its strength in ray tracing-based photorealistic rendering, the REDsdk complements and extends HOOPS Visualize. It will be interesting to see how Tech Soft 3D merges and integrates REDsdk’s “game-engine approach” into Visualize. Tech Soft 3D also intends to bring Redway3D technology into other relevant products in the portfolio.
As Redway3D and Tech Soft 3D already have customers in common, Tech Soft 3D sees the Redway3D technology as an opportunity to make the HOOPS platform appealing to a broader market than the traditional companies and customers that use the platform. The end users of the REDsdk are primarily those using engineering software and those who want to maximize the use of their CAD data. So, adding REDsdk allows Tech Soft 3D to expand into new markets.
Details of the acquisition were not disclosed.
Tech Soft 3D intends to maintain and support Redway3D’s existing partners.
