When preparing to 3D print your design, a key step is to ensure that it has as few problems, such as unintended holes or missed data, as possible. Not all CAD programs offer tools to aid you with this step, but that is beginning to change.

This set of tools for SpaceClaim Engineer 2014 includes LiveReview, a cloud-enabled live 3D collaboration system (formerly codenamed “Connect”); and, for those involved with 3D printing–a new STL Prep for 3D Printing module.
The STL Prep for 3D Printing module helps you prepare your designs for 3D printing by offering a set of tools to repair printing problems and to modify STL and CAD files as easily as if they were created natively or imported. You can use the module to check for and repair water-tightness and intersections, to shell models to save on material, and to create connecting features to combine parts of a model after printing. STL Prep for 3D Printing also works with OBJ, CGR, and AMF file formats. STL Prep is an add-on module to SpaceClaim Engineer.
The CAD focused feature LiveReview lets more than one user engage and contribute simultaneously to editing a model in real time. This feature extends SpaceClaim Engineer’s intuitive interface, interoperability, and speed into a hosted session, accessible through any WebGL-capable browser on a computer or mobile device. Even engineers without any 3D modeling software can actively review, edit or model live online. SpaceClaim is offering current customers access to LiveReview for six months beginning today.
An annual subscription to LiveReview will be available for $500 when the early access period ends. The STL Prep for 3D Printing module is available today from SpaceClaim resellers and partners. Those interested in SpaceClaim Engineer can request a trial.
