Smithsonian uses 3D printing to bring more treasures to the public

Smithsonian uses 3D printing to replicate JeffersonOver the past few months, much has been said about how various groups would use 3D printing technology. Well, here is a very interesting application.  CNET reports that the Smithsonian plans to create a series of 3D-printed models, exhibits, and scientific replicas–as well as generate a  digital archive of 3D models of many of the physical objects in its collection. While maybe not the “killer app” proponents are looking for, this is certainly an important application for 3D printing.
