SLM Solutions GmbH, a German manufacturer of equipment for rapid prototyping/ laser sintering, introduced the SLM 280 HL at EuroMold 2011. The system uses the selective laser melting (SLM) process to produce metal objects.
The SLM 280 HL offers an 11.0 x 11.0 x 13.8-inch build area. For increased processing speed, it uses a patented bi-directional loader for powder feeding and dual beam (laser) for part construction. Other features include improved beam profiles — eliminating Z-shift F-theta Optics; patented safe filter system for powder control and closed-chamber, recirculating process for reduced gas consumption.
The system processes stainless steel, tooling steel, cobalt-chromium, super alloys, aluminium and titanium. The company notes that additional alloys are possible since it offers an open system where users may develop their own material processing parameters.
