Sigmetrix has announced that it will partner with PTC to embed its advanced geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) software, GD&T Advisor, directly into Creo 4.0.

As anyone who’s been deep in the product development cycle knows, GD&T is critical for ensuring that manufactured goods match their models and drawings. However, assigning the right tolerances, datums and dimensions to a model can be tedious and time-consuming, slowing down the product development cycle. But by leveraging the intuitive nature of GD&T Advisor, engineers can quickly apply the correct tolerances and dimensions to their models.

“As an expert in GD&T and tolerance analysis software, and a PTC partner for 26 years, Sigmetrix is a natural choice for a technology collaboration with PTC,” said Brian Thompson, senior vice president, CAD Segment, at PTC. “Sigmetrix has been a great partner with its GD&T Advisor software and CETOL 6σ tolerance analysis solutions, and we look forward to working with them to improve how GD&T is applied to the CAD model. This will alleviate a major hurdle for companies trying to move to a model-based definition environment.”

While not automated, GD&T Advisor is capable of guiding a user through the process of assigning GD&T to a model. Along the way, Advisor can educate users on how to assign the correct amount of GD&T to a model, ensure that the GD&T data is valid and correct and make sure that a model is completely constrained.

Through this step-by-step process, users can narrow the chance of assigning costly and excessive amounts of GD&T to a model and guarantee that drawings, whether they be 2D or 3D PDFs, are not misinterpreted by manufacturers.

According to the PTC user community, PTC Creo 4.0 is slated to launch on Nov.22.
