A trend for many additive-manufacturing vendors is to offer software that simulates portions of the additive process, particularly for metal additive manufacturing.

The newest such software is FLEX, the result of a joint development between Sigma Labs Inc., and 3DSIM.

FLEX software simulates thermal sensors’ response to the metal AM process.

FLEX users can run a simulation that predicts what a high speed, non-contact pyrometer in their AM machine would “see,” much like a “print preview” function for word processing software. When used with PrintRite3D, FLEX can predict that program’s outputs and simulate the response of sensors in an AM machine.

FLEX is the newest software from 3DSIM. The full commercial version is scheduled for release in early 2018.
