Siemens Xcelerator Adds Quality Management to Its Portfolio

Teamcenter Quality will provide full-cycle quality management for product development.

Teamcenter Quality is the latest of Siemens’ product offerings to be added to Xcelerator. Teamcenter Quality will expand the Xcelerator portfolio by helping product development, quality planning and process improvement processes during the full product cycle—from research and development to manufacturing, quality assurance and more.

Xcelerator is a part of Siemens software as a service (SaaS) offering. It integrates the Siemens Digital Industries Software portfolio with:

  • Embedded tools
  • Databases
  • Technology
  • Operational technology
  • Engineering technology

By integrating Teamcenter Quality into the workflow, thus combining a quality management system (QMS) with product lifecycle management (PLM), teams and leaders will be able to harness and maximize the value of change and configuration management capabilities.

Incorporating QMS and PLM practices, which are now integrated into the Xcelerator platform, companies will be able to reduce product and operating costs while improving quality. It will allow companies to save a great deal of money on research and development, as well as manufacturing, allowing them to gain a competitive advantage by being able to not only release a product that is more affordable but also minimizing the design-to-launch timeframe. The new extension to Teamcenter allows engineers to set the quality requirements and establish product parameters needed early on, thus avoiding costly returns to the drawing board and spec optimization.

Teamcenter Quality Aligns Workflows Between Quality, Manufacturing and Engineering

Communication can be one of the biggest challenges in the modern workplace. Various teams and departments are often simultaneously working on different aspects of the same project, which sometimes means competing priorities. By integrating Teamcenter Quality directly into Xcelerator, Siemens hopes to ease the communication between various teams while also streamlining the process for the product manager. This helps ensure that all of the quality specifications are being met throughout the design and manufacturing process.

“Creating this single source of truth for product, process and quality data can help ensure each step of the process is synchronized and compliant while also offering traceability and a high level of transparency within the process,” said Dr. Raffaello Lepratti, Siemens vice president of Business Development and Marketing for Manufacturing Operations Management.

He added that the main goal of the Teamcenter Quality is to create “aligned workflows between quality, manufacturing and engineering teams to help improve collaboration and reduce the need for coordination.” By centralizing around the end product and building communication channels, Teamcenter Quality will be able to do away with much of the day-to-day need for coordination and reduce the number of meetings that need to take place to ensure everyone is on the same page.

Teamcenter Quality allows its users to build dashboards that are quality-centric with actions built around them using custom reports that contain vital information, such as status, upcoming deadlines, assigned leads, related projects, notes and other information that may prove useful for the project. The dashboards can be predeveloped directly by Siemens, or a user group can build their own dedicated dashboards to share with others.

This quick-access collection of information allows managers and designers to overview all parts of the project and drill-down for context as needed. More importantly, all of the dashboards are hosted on the cloud and continually updated so that product leads and managers can have access to real-time information on the fly.
