Seequent, a leading software company in the geoscience sector serving the mining, civil and environmental and energy industries, has a new CEO taking the helm. Graham Grant, who spent the past six years as the company’s COO, will succeed retiring CEO Shaun Maloney, who held the role of CEO for a decade. The move comes at an exciting time for Seequent, as it prepares to come under the umbrella of Bentley Systems.

“These are exciting times for us,” said Grant. “This next chapter, bringing our solutions together with those of Bentley, will create a ground-breaking class of software solutions. I look forward to leading Seequent’s continued business growth and performance, driving new business opportunities, and expanding our innovative solutions portfolio for our customers.”

Seequent offers a wide variety of software solutions for the geosciences, ranging from 3D modeling and visualization with Leapfrog Geo to Seequent Central, an integrated platform to help collaborate and manage their geologic data in a single location. Leapfrog Geothermal is a powerful analytical tool that is geared toward modeling test well trajectories. Oasis montaj is the company’s more technical offering with a focus on assessing geochemistry and geophysics in a visual, 3D format.

“Subsurface understanding is critical in a range of industries and applications, from our core markets in mining, energy and civil infrastructure, to important project work happening around the globe addressing critical challenges such as locating sustainable sources of aquifers for potable water, locating unexploded ordnance in previous war zones, and analyzing retreating Antarctica ice sheets as a predictor for global sea level rise,” explained Graham. “These kinds of geoscience challenges will only increase in the future as populations grow, societies evolve and the need for resilient infrastructure, clean water and renewable energy continues to rise. It is a privilege to be leading Seequent as we meet those challenges head on and provide the solutions to empower geo-professionals, decision-makers, and communities to make good decisions that benefit people and the planet.”

The incoming CEO couldn’t be more spot-on with his assessment of the importance of understanding and properly analyzing geologic conditions, especially in the energy industry. Climate change is driven for better or worse by humanity’s reliance on fossil fuels and their extraction. Powerful software tools like those developed by Seequent help make the process more efficient and allow engineers and scientists to evaluate and develop natural resources as cleanly as possible. With the resources provided by Bentley and a capable leader, expect Seequent to continue pushing the limits of what can be analyzed and modeled with geoscience software.

As Seequent moves into its next phase as a subsidiary of Bentley Systems, the company appears to be in strong hands with Graham. “It’s an honor to take the helm at Seequent,” he said. “What Shaun and the Seequent team have achieved—building this company from what was a small Christchurch-based start-up 17 years ago, to a truly global company providing innovative solutions to geoscience challenges in over 100 countries around the world—is remarkable. We are fortunate to have a global workforce of experts in their field, and the passion they bring to their roles, the resilience they have shown during Covid, and their amazing customer focus is what has made Seequent the success story it is. I am proud to be a part of that success and excited to take Seequent into its next chapter.”
