Schneider Electric joins EPRI’s DCFlex initiative

Schneider Electric joins collaborative effort with Google, Meta, and NVIDIA to enhance grid reliability.

Schneider Electric has joined the Electric Power Research Institute’s (EPRI) DCFlex initiative to examine how data centers can contribute to grid stability, improve asset utilization, and meet energy demands in the United States and globally.

EPRI’s DCFlex initiative explores how data centers can support the electric grid, enable better asset utilization, and improve interconnection and efficiency. It’s a collaborative effort—with Google, Meta, NVIDIA, and various utilities as founding members.

EPRI’s DCFlex initiative is a three-year research and development project that seeks to study how data centers can contribute to grid management while improving interconnection and efficiency. The initiative will deploy five to 10 large-scale flexibility hubs, each serving as a real-world test site to evaluate methods for integrating data centers with the grid under various conditions.

The EPRI DCFlex initiative includes more than 40 members, including Constellation Energy, Duke Energy, New York Power Authority, NRG Energy, Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E), Portland General Electric, Southern Company, and Vistra Corp. Utilities are key participants in the initiative, working with data centers, technology companies, and other stakeholders to improve grid operations. They contribute to testing approaches for integrating data centers with the grid, adapting grid operations to changing demands, and facilitating data center-grid coordination.

Schneider Electric demonstrates its focus on grid technology with the launch of the One Digital Grid Platform, an AI-powered grid management system designed to improve grid stability and efficiency. The platform helps utilities advance modernization efforts through a secure and adaptable system, reduce grid outages, and support DER integration to meet energy demand. More details on the One Digital Grid Platform can be seen here.

Schneider Electric announced its new One Digital Grid Platform and its participation in the DCFlex initiative at DISTRIBUTECH, a major annual trade show focused on transmission and distribution technologies.
