Industrial automation company Rockwell Automation announced that it is partnering with cloud-based product digitization and traceability platform Kezzler AS. The two will be working on developing a unified traceability platform capable of displaying relevant supply chain information in real time. Industries such as life sciences, food and beverage, and consumer packaged goods will be able to view and track the entire life span of their products, including raw materials, to point of sale. The platform will utilize Rockwell’s supply chain capabilities alongside Kezzler’s cloud-based traceability solutions to provide ease of access for suppliers, manufacturing, logistics and consumers. According to Rockwell, businesses that want to ensure regulatory compliance in areas such as product quality, safety and sustainability will be able to benefit the most from this technology.

Kezzler’s cloud-based solution offers both integration flexibility and access to various systems of record from an extensive range of technologies. This includes blockchain as well as traditional databases. According to a press release, the two companies can also create unique identities that will be used to digitally recognize and track products from creation to consumption. This means that Rockwell and Kezzler can provide relevant data that will allow companies to improve best practices and optimize production based on the results of the track-and-trace system.

“Together, we can help manufacturers connect all points of a product’s journey, beginning with its inception and ending with its point of sale, consumption, or even where it’s recycled,” said Kezzler CEO Christine C. Akselsen. “Tying upstream and downstream data together creates true end-to-end traceability, with a single data repository for each product.”

Rockwell also recently acquired manufacturing cloud solutions developer Plex Systems back in June. Plex Systems’ cloud-native smart manufacturing platform offers supply chain visibility and management. This allows organizations to easily connect, automate, track and analyze their operations as well as their connected supply chains through cloud-based technology. Rockwell is planning to integrate Plex Systems’ cloud-native factory floor track-and-trace capabilities with Kezzler’s end-to-end capabilities once the acquisition is completed, which is expected to occur before the end of 2021.

“Our partnership with Kezzler will provide greater supply chain transparency to enhance safety and quality control measures, ensure regulatory compliance, and meet ESG goals with cloud-based technologies that are easy to implement and easy to use,” shared Matt Fordenwalt, Rockwell vice president and general manager of Systems & Solutions Business. “By combining our technology and expertise with Kezzler’s, we can quickly design and deliver a serialization solution customized to meet specific business requirements with advanced cloud-native software.”

This isn’t the first time the two companies have joined forces to create digital track-and-trace technology. Rockwell and Kezzler previously developed traceability solutions for the likes of dairy company FrieslandCampina by using unique QR codes that let the company track its products from farmer to consumer. This also allows consumers to ensure the authenticity or products and learn about their origins simply by scanning the code on the product package.

Kezzler will be joining the Rockwell Automation Digital Partner Program, which is a centralized resource for digital solutions that aims to simplify digital transformation for customers’ manufacturing operations.
