Companies with the best record of quality production have a firm foundation in engineering communication that extends from the CAD technician all the way through to the shop floor.
Unlike person-to-person communication, engineering communication relies on a different language, and the basis of that language is geometric dimension and tolerancing (GD&T).
GD&T is fundamental to making sure the tolerances required for a design can be repeatedly and accurately manufactured. While GD&T used to be an exercise done on paper, today the process is migrating to the digital realm now that many CAD applications include the ability to input product manufacturing information (PMI) directly into a model.
Because PMI allows GD&T data to be baked into a model, software can be used to analyze tolerances, ensuring that 3D designs can be transformed into a quality, mass manufacturable product.
In this white paper, Ryan Reid will explain how adopting GD&T and PMI can improve the quality of the goods you manufacture by digitizing the tolerancing process.
About the Speaker:
Ryan Reid is a CAD administrator, PLM enthusiast, designer, GD&T specialist, lead, lean philosophy supporter, Microsoft Office expert, 3D printing hobbyist and manufacturing-focused professional with 17 years of combined experience in those areas. Reid has accomplishments in all aspects of manufacturing engineering, from cradle to grave plastics/mold to structural, systems, process and change management design.
