Computational Design allows for data to pass through code to automate BIM production tasks. Join Dana, Co-Leader of Computational Design at SmithGroup, while she discusses developing, maintaining, and teaching workflows to streamline day-to-day production workflows.
The Architectural, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) industry standard is to produce construction documentation using Building Information Modeling (BIM), the process in which a digital representation is created for optimizing the design, construction and operation of a building. Computational Design allows for data to pass through code to automate BIM production tasks.
Join Dana, Co-Leader of Computational Design at SmithGroup, while she discusses developing, maintaining, and teaching workflows to streamline day-to-day production workflows. Dana will demonstrate how to leverage the data-centric environment, automating logical tasks (such as renaming views) to save time and increase efficiency through BIM and Computational Design practices.
About the Speaker:
Dana De Filippi – Co-Leader of Computational Design, SmithGroup
As an educator, creator, and problem solver, Dana is enthusiastic about developing efficiencies in producing construction documentation. Dana’s primary background is focused in interior and architectural design, working with a number of professionals to optimize production challenges. Since joining the multi-disciplinary firm SmithGroup four years ago, she has had the opportunity to deepen her understanding of challenges in building construction through her work with a variety of specialized engineers including mechanical, fire protection, civil, structural, electrical and plumbing. Dana is passionate about developing, maintaining, and teaching workflows to streamline day-to-day production tasks.
Dana educates and engages the community through participating in BIM related groups, co-hosting BIMThoughts as well as moderating and board member to the BIMxt Network. Her main vehicle of education is through her YouTube channel, DanamoBIM. Through this platform, BIM and Computational Design practices are explained to further support the data-centric environment, demonstrating how logical tasks can be automated to save time and increase efficiency.
Ken Flannigan – Director, AEC Alliances & Solutions – Dell Technologies
Ken joined Dell in October of 2021 and leads Dell’s AECO industry strategy for the performance PC group. He has spent his whole career in the digital transformation of the Architecture, Engineering and Construction industries. An early adopter and implementer of Building Information Modelling and Virtual Design and Construction, Ken has been part of the major shift in how buildings are designed, built, and operated over the last 15 years. Prior to joining Dell, Ken spent 5 years leading these transformational efforts globally for KONE elevators and escalators.
