Real-Time-Based Simulation in WaterCAD, WaterGEMS, and HAMMER

Bentley adds Real-Time Simulation to CAE Software

Bentley added real-time-based simulation to the latest release of their water distribution CAE software. This simulation addition is included in the SELECTseries 5 release of WaterCAD, WaterGEMS and HAMMER. The release also improves the BIM mobility of data across the software packages and SCADA (Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition) systems.

The addition of real-time simulation will help engineers discover, forecast and solve both design and operation issues. Operators and designers will be able to make better informed decisions thanks to the simulation’s ability to use real world SCADA data as the initial conditions. The results of the simulation can then be passed back into the SCADA control system to help operations.

Gregg Herrin, Bentley Systems director said, “For over 10 years, engineers have used the SCADAConnect capabilities within WaterCAD and WaterGEMS to leverage valuable field information by integrating a utility’s SCADA system with our hydraulic models. With the SELECTseries 5 releases of these products, as well as of HAMMER, we have further enhanced information mobility across engineering and operations. Thus, model results can now be published to the utility’s existing SCADA system control screen using the industry-standard OPC communication protocol. This ‘asset performance modeling’ enables system operators to benefit from optioneering as they evaluate and visualize model predictions directly in the user interface they regularly employ.”

The new release of WaterCAD, WaterGEMS and HAMMER will also allow users to access historical and real time SCADA data for comparison to simulation results. Users will be better informed in their decisions as they can use real-world site specific data as opposed to historical data from other locations.

Other improvements to the SELECTseries 5 Release:

  • Multi-species water quality analysis (WaterCAD & WaterGEMS)
  • Multi-scenarios as batch runs (HAMMER)
  • Bentley Map Mobile app hydraulic i-model publishing (All)
  • Model in MicroStation, AutoCAD and ArcGIS (all except WaterCAD in ArcGIS)
