What the seven IoT solutions—Qualcomm QCS8250, Qualcomm QCS6490/QCM6490, Qualcomm QCS4290/QCM4290, and the Qualcomm QCS2290/QCM2290—have in common is that they are purpose-built to expand access to various commercial and industrial applications, such as in transportation, logistics, warehousing, video collaboration, smart cameras, retail and healthcare, among other applications. They also feature options for extended life hardware and software support for a minimum of eight years.

“Qualcomm Technologies is uniquely positioned to lead the IoT ecosystem forward with our systems-level approach. Along with the recently announced Qualcomm® 315 5G IoT modem, these new IoT solutions further exemplify our commitment to driving global digital transformation and providing a portfolio of solutions to transform industrial and enterprise IoT applications to achieve cutting edge performance and seamless connectivity,” said Jeff Lorbeck, senior vice president and general manager of connected smart systems at Qualcomm Technologies, Inc.

Targeting connected healthcare, digital signage, retail and video collaboration uses, the Qualcomm QCS8250 is a premium-tier offering among the seven solutions that enable computation-intensive edge AI with support for Qualcomm Wi-Fi 6 solutions and 5G connectivity. Using the Qualcomm Kryo™ 585 CPU architecture, the Qualcomm Artificial Intelligence (AI) Engine, and powerful image signal processor (ISP), the QCS8250 is designed for high performance with support for up to seven concurrent cameras with encoding at up to 4K resolution at 120 frames per second. It also offers a new Neural Processing Unit (NPU) for ultra-intuitive AI and machine learning to support smart cameras, video collaboration, AI hubs, connected healthcare and smart retail.

The technologies’ Kryo 670 CPU architecture is purpose-built for commercial IoT applications in transportation, warehousing, connected healthcare, logistics management and across retail sectors. Also designed for healthcare as well as logistics, retail, transportation and warehousing, the Qualcomm QCS6490/QCM6490 solutions are optimized to deliver premium 5G connectivity and Wi-Fi 6E for high-tier IoT devices. Being equipped to support 5G mmWave/Sub-6 GHz and Wi-Fi 6E, the solutions are geared to bring a degree of ruggedness for handhelds and tablets, industrial scanners and human-machine interface systems.

With security an ever-present need for IoT, the Qualcomm QCS4290/QCM4290 were built for industrial and commercial IoT applications such as industrial handhelds in logistics and warehousing, security panels and cameras where intuitive on-device intelligence is needed for productive and efficient work environments. The QCS4290 and QCM4290 also feature Kryo 260 CPU architecture resulting in higher speeds and performance. Aided by the third generation Qualcomm AI Engine, the focus with these solutions is on performance, camera capabilities and LTE Cat13, Wi-Fi 6 connectivity options.

Qualcomm’s entry-level offerings, QCS2290 and QCM2290, are geared for reliability and power conservation for use in cameras, industrial handhelds, retail and tracking devices. They feature LTE connectivity, memory support for low-power consumption and are equipped with Cortex A53 CPU architecture. They are cost-effective solutions yielding strong performance, graphics, imagery and power suited for handheld devices.

“Qualcomm Technologies’ newest IoT solutions mark an exciting step forward in the global proliferation of next-generation IoT devices,” said Patrick Qian, CEO, Quectel. “These solutions are highly compatible with Quectel’s existing 5G and LTE modules, allowing customers to accelerate their designs with fast time-to-market. We are very proud to work with Qualcomm Technologies as we continue to enable the growth of the Internet of Things.”

The Qualcomm QCS8250, Qualcomm QCS4290/ QCM4290, and Qualcomm QCS2290/ QCM2290 solutions are currently on the market, while the Qualcomm QCS6490/ QCM6490 solutions are expected to be available later this year.
