PTC releases Onshape AI Advisor and Onshape Government

New Onshape tools include an AI assistant for design support and a CAD/PDM solution compliant with ITAR and EAR.

PTC has introduced two additions to its cloud-native Onshape CAD and product data management (PDM) platform: Onshape AI Advisor, a generative AI-based assistant aimed at supporting design productivity, and Onshape Government, a version tailored to meet ITAR and EAR compliance requirements for U.S. government agencies and defense contractors. These tools are intended to support real-time collaboration and more streamlined product development.

Onshape AI Advisor helps users accelerate their design process with expert, AI-powered guidance on CAD workflows, PDM best practices, and platform capabilities. Developed on Amazon Bedrock, Onshape AI Advisor helps teams transition from legacy CAD, optimize designs, and improve efficiency.

Onshape Government is a purpose-built version of Onshape, designed specifically to help meet the compliance needs of U.S. federal and state agencies, defense contractors, and organizations working on regulated projects. Hosted on AWS GovCloud (U.S.), Onshape Government enables compliance with regulations such as ITAR and EAR while offering the same streamlined collaboration and version control and accessibility benefits that make Onshape one of the industry’s fastest-growing CAD and PDM solutions.

Onshape is a cloud-native CAD and PDM platform used by companies including Trek Bikes, Garmin, BOA, K2, Garrett Motion, and AURA AERO. Through its regular release cycles, Onshape has introduced features such as CAM Studio, Render Studio, PCB Studio, Onshape Simulation, new surfacing tools, modeling analysis, mixed modeling capabilities, and integration with Arena for connected CAD, PDM, and PLM workflows. In education, Onshape reports over 1.5 million new signups annually, with institutions such as The Ohio State University, Duke University, and the University of Southern California incorporating it into their engineering programs.
