PTC Acquires More Software and Product Variation Management Technology

Pure-systems will bring more functionality to PTC’s ALM offerings.

PTC, the engineering software and PLM leader, announced that it has acquired pure-systems, experts in product and software variant management. Judging by the disclaimer on pure-systems’ website, the acquisition of the German software company has already gone through. This new PTC subsidiary offers pure::variants, a tool that helps engineers and product designers manage product and software variation. The companies partnered in the past to integrate pure::variants into PTC’s application lifecycle management (ALM) software, Codebeamer.

“The acquisition of pure-systems adds important functionality to our ALM suite that is critical to manufacturers around the world,” said Jim Heppelmann, Chairman and CEO of PTC. “Manufacturers are increasingly turning to software to differentiate their products and to create different versions of their products to address the full range of customer needs.”

Products are becoming more complex and customized to remain relevant during an era of bespoke, modular, interconnected, smart and AI embedded alternatives. As a result, software development has become a significant part of every industry. Pure-systems’ target customers are in highly regulated industries like healthcare, automotive, aerospace and defense—who are not immune to these product complexity trends. PTC is a popular software provider to many companies in these industries, so the acquisition is a good match.

For example, “Automakers that are investing heavily in software-defined vehicles require tightly integrated ALM and software variant management solutions to plan and deliver the different software configurations that power their range of vehicle offerings,” said Heppelmann. “We believe that the combination of Codebeamer and pure::variants positions PTC as one of the leading providers of software requirements, configuration, testing and validation solutions in the market.”

Danilo Beuche, CEO of pure-systems, agrees with Heppelmann. Beuche said, “PTC shares our focus on this critical need for companies that make complex, regulated products and on the importance of an open ecosystem approach.”
