Production Technology at IMTS: Mill Chucks, Cutting Tool Heads and More

A quick peak at showcases from Emuge, Haimer USA, Koma Precision and Alberti.

FPC Mill/Drill Chucks from Emuge

Emuge Corp., a manufacturer of taps, thread mills, drills, toolholders, clamping devices and other rotary cutting tools, in partnership with Albrecht Precision Chucks, has introduced high precision Emuge FPC Mill/ Drill Chucks that provide greater rigidity, vibration dampening, concentricity, machining speed and tool life.

Featuring a chuck with a 1:16 worm gear, Emuge FPC Chuck’s patented design delivers three tons of traction force. The unique design and body provide 100 percent holding power for maximum rigidity, and the collet-cone assembly absorbs virtually all vibration for maximum dampening.

Unique features and advantages include:

  • High transferable torque that provides maximum process reliability. Transferred torque on a tool shank diameter of 20 mm is 400 Nm.
  • Increased accuracy with a 3 x D tool length, concentricity is ≤ 3 µm to guarantee long tool life and quality work piece surface finishes.
  • Chuck is mechanical drive-actuated with a hex wrench.
  • Special holder design reduces vibration that improves work piece surface finishes and provides exceptionally long tool life.
  • For maximum safety, the strongest clamping force to prevent the possibility of pull-out.

In a speed comparison with four chuck technologies, using a 20 mm end mill in the same material, the Emuge FPC Chuck enabled the feed rate to be increased by 30 percent with no loss in performance.

Emuge FPC Chucks are available in four shank styles (CAT, HSK-A, SK and BT) in 47 different sku’s for a wide range of applications.  A full range of high precision collets and accessories are also available for the FPC line.

Emuge FPC Collets are available in three size ranges (FPC 14, FPC 20 and FPC 25) in over 35 different sku’s, from 1/8″ to 1/1/4″ and in metric from 2 mm – 32 mm.

These Emuge FPC Mill/ Drill Chucks will be featured at Emuge’s Booth W-1536 at IMTS 2016, McCormick Place, Chicago, Illinois from September 12-17, 2016.

Duo-λock Modular Interface for Carbide Cutting Tool Heads from Haimer USA

Haimer USA will have many products and technologies on display at IMTS 2016 including its new modular interface Duo-λock for carbide cutting tool heads.

To combat the steadily increasing cost of carbide, modular cutting systems with carbide heads have continued to gain traction in the marketplace. The concept of Duo-Lock provides maximum stability and stiffness based on an innovative thread with the patented double cone connection and an additional third supporting pilot at the base of the interface.

HAIMER will also be exhibiting their Safe -λock tool clamping system and Power Mill end mills. The HAIMER Safe -λock Clamping System has provided reliable pullout protection that withstands even the toughest materials. The Power Mill end mill series is made from K20-K40 grade fine grain carbide developed to be matched with HAIMER’s premium tool holders.

Other technologies and products figuring prominently in Haimer’s IMTS exhibit are the Power Clamp Shrink Fit Machines, HAIMER Shrink Fit tool holders and collet chucks, Tool Dynamic Balancing Machines, HAIMER 3D Sensors, and HAIMER Cool Flash coolant delivery system.

Haimer is located in booth #W-1452 at McCormick Place in Chicago during the September 2016 show.

Custom Designed Angle Heads from Koma Precision and Alberti

Koma Precision, Inc. offers custom designed angle heads manufactured by Alberti. These special application heads fit all industries across the board.

All Alberti angle head spindles are manufactured from one solid piece of hardened steel that increases resistance to bending stress by 25 percent. This also enables the tools to reach higher RPM without vibrations, thus resulting in higher speed and precision. The unique angular contact bearings ensure the concentricity and stability required to achieve higher performance of machining operations.

The superior mechanical seals and gears are researched and developed at the Alberti Engineering and Technology Center.

These tools will be on display during the show IMTS 2016, in Koma Precision’s Booth 9153 in the South Hall. The IMTS Show will be from September 12 to 17, 2016 at McCormick Place, Chicago, IL.
