Connected system software provider Wind River has released a new product made to enable Edge analytics for the Internet of Things (IoT): AXON Predict Analytics for VxWorks is a visual analytics platform for the IoT Edge that runs on Wind River’s real-time operating system (RTOS), VxWorks.

Instead of connecting to the cloud for IoT insights, AXON Predict Analytics processes the data where it’s created—the so-called Edge of the network. In the case of Industrial IoT (IIoT) solutions, Edge refers to the industrial site housing the machines and other assets that generate IIoT data. There are several advantages to Edge analytics including reduced latency (no need to send data all the way to the Cloud and back) and easier accessibility for remote sites (such as oil rigs, desert wind farms, airplanes and other sites with limited network connectivity).

AXON Predict Analytics for VxWorks enables on-device analytics by reading IoT data streams into its analytics engine and displaying data insights in real-time with a visual web interface. By analyzing IoT data and leveraging machine learning and artificial intelligence techniques, AXON Predict Analytics can immediately alert users of any asset anomalies.

Edge analysis is well-suited for predictive maintenance, one of the biggest beneficiaries of IIoT data and the constant analysis thereof.By detecting problems with industrial assets before they fail and taking preventive measures to ensure they don’t, you can avoid costly repairs and even costlier downtime.

“While the use cases for AXON Predict Analytics are almost infinite, there is immediate impact and high business value for our customers in particular for predictive maintenance, self-healing, safety and security applications,” writes Kevin Konkos for Wind River’s blog post introducing AXON Predict Analytics.
