PLM and ALM Tool Coming for Large Engineered-to-Order Projects and Continuous Assets

Lighthouse agreement signals new ALM and PLM tools.

Aras, the low-code PLM platform provider, and AVEVA, the industrial software company, signed a beta testing agreement with McDermott, an international engineering procurement and construction company. The tool being assessed is a new PLM and asset lifecycle management (ALM) tool for the energy, oil & gas, and nuclear sectors. The purpose of ALM is to limit costs and risks over a project’s lifecycle by improving decision making, traceability and collaboration in an industrial environment. As such, ALM and PLM tools enable change, configuration, requirements, supplier management and more.

Recently, AVEVA and Aras signed an agreement to produce tools for the modular Aras Innovator platform to overcome the challenges of deploying PLM tools in large engineered-to-order projects and operations with continuous process assets. This new agreement signals that one of those tools, specifically one focusing on ALM, might be available soon.

“We are proud to be working with McDermott on this lighthouse program,” said Rob McGreevy, Chief Product Officer at AVEVA in a release. “McDermott’s engineering expertise forms an essential input in pioneering an industry solution that is urgently needed to improve outcomes in the energy, nuclear, marine and other sectors. Our asset lifecycle management capability developed together with Aras will provide competitive advantages for customers who join the lighthouse program.”

By seamlessly integrating Aras and AVEVA technology large operations can gain a single engineering system of record to improve efficiency, data control, information distributions and traceability across the lifecycle of their assets. Essentially, Aras’ platform will increase the reach of AVEVA’s EPC tools into a collaborative project space for requirements management and workflow-driven abilities.

“The integration of these two toolsets presents a strong digital-centric execution solution bringing together proven EPC tools with the robust digital transformation possibilities of the low-code Aras platform to digitalize industry processes that have been document-centric for too long,” said Vaseem Khan, an SVP of Global Operations at McDermott. “We’re excited to see the potential value out of this lighthouse program.”
