please elaborate upon the differences between a simple and compound pendulum ?
A simple pendulum is represented by a mass of no size attached to an string of with no mass.
A compound pendulum represents a real object that is swinging about a point other than its center of gravity.
For the simple pendulum all you need to know is its mass and the distance to the pivot. A child swinging on a swing or the pendulum of a clock is a good representation of this type of pendulum.
For the compound pendulum you need to know its mass, its moment of inertia about the pivot point.
