Online Training in Using Autodesk (and other) Engineering Software

At Autodesk University last week, online learning and training company SolidProfessor told attendees it offers extensive Autodesk content in its learning platform, including Fusion 360, Inventor, AutoCAD, Revit, Meshmixer, 3DS Max, Civil 3D, and Navisworks.

The company will continue to expand its Autodesk course offerings through its partnership with Autodesk and its commitment to help users stay on top of all of their engineering software and tools, says Tony Glockler, SolidProfessor’s chief executive officer.

SolidProfessor offers training for Autodesk and other engineering software and design software packages. It's also available via mobile applications, for training at the user's convenience.

These types of learning packages are particularly important in light of what we know about new information and retention, he says.

For instance, at the event’s the closing keynote, Autodesk chief marketing officer Andrew Anagnost said: “Did you know that after 24 hours, you’ve already forgotten 70 percent of the new information you’ve gotten from a presentation?”

Also at Autodesk University, Autodesk announced it is making Fusion 360 web-accessible, available on any device, which completes the transition to cloud software. The move to the cloud will allow for rapid iteration, tight communication between a geographically diverse team, innovation, and greater accessibility to engineering software, Anagnost says.

But there are challenges associated with the move to the cloud as well, making it more difficult for engineers to stay current on rapidly evolving software capabilities. The industry is evolving from viewing training as a once yearly event and is making the shift to ongoing professional development and online learning helps that process, Glockler says.

Tools and skills learned at Autodesk University can’t stop after attendees have left Las Vegas, he adds.

“Continuous learning helps defeat that forgetting curve and keep skills sharp,” he says.

Earlier this month, SolidProfessor announced its first ANSYS training course, Introduction to ANSYS CFX. It also features Matlab and SolidWorks training as well as training for other software packages.

Also, classes and teams can use the training packages in tandem.

SolidProfessor combines concept-based videos with hands-on exercises to help members learn and improve their skills, Glockler says. It also includes skills assessments to reinforce the learning experience.
