As hybrid workplace models are expected to remain the norm well into the post-pandemic era, remote work productivity tools will likely continue to be in high demand. The Tri-Screen 2 by Austin, Tex.-based Xebec, is one such tool—a lightweight pair of displays that can be added to most laptops to triple the screen real estate.

The portable Tri-Screen 2 is an enhancement of Xebec’s original product, providing a lighter-weight and more compact system. Able to work with most modern laptops, the Tri-Screen 2 attaches with a patented tensioning system rather than adhesives or magnetism and connects to a computer via USB-C with DP inputs. There’s also a Mini-HDMI input for video.

Weighing in at just two pounds, the portable Tri-Screen monitor is compact with a 12-inch width, 7.5-inch height and 1-inch depth. The two 10.1-inch full HD LCD IPS displays each have a 1920 x 1200 resolution and a 16:10 aspect ratio, 180-degree screen rotation and adjustable brightness. The screens are 6.5mm thick and fit with laptops ranging in size from 12 to 20 inches. The Tri-Screen 2 is compatible with all operating systems, including Windows, Mac and Chrome OS. Each screen has a 10W power draw (supplied through USB-C).

The Tri-Screen 2’s retail price is $499. It is ready for use right out of the box with no need for driver downloads or other software. The lightweight and collapsible nature of the screens are geared for easy setup and mobility. Additional features include an integrated telescoping built-in kickstand, input cable positioned for compact length and an adapter that enables users to connect with a single USB-A connection per screen. The Tri-Screen 2 is also equipped with a stretchable bracket to easily adjust to different laptop sizes. Although the three-screen setup is designed to maximize productivity, users can implement only one of the Tri-Screen 2’s screens if desired.

As dual monitors have become less expensive, they’ve become more widely adopted across workplace sectors. A 2008 study conducted by the University of Utah and funded by NEC Display suggests that the rise in popularity stems from the boost in productivity that dual monitors can produce. The study found that dual 20-inch monitors had a 44 percent increase in productivity over a single 18-inch monitor and a 12 percent increase over a dual 18-inch configuration for the same task.

“We launched Xebec to enable maximum productivity without sacrificing portability, and the Tri-Screen 2 is perfect for those working from home, a coffee shop, coworking space, or the office,” said Alex Levine, CEO and cofounder of Xebec. “People across all industries and roles, from consultants and creators to lawyers and communications professionals, have all loved the benefits offered by the first-generation product. We listened to our customer feedback, and we know the upgrades we’ve made will make the Tri-Screen 2 an even easier and more portable solution for the modern professional.”
