The 3D platform now supports Ada Lovelace GPUs for better performance, new tools, and more collaborative opportunities.
This week NVIDIA released what it calls a major update to Omniverse Enterprise, its real-time 3D platform for simulation and collaboration.
NVIDIA says the update provides better performance including “generational leaps in real-time RTX ray and path tracing.” The update also brings support for NVIDIA’s latest GPU architecture, Ada Lovelace, found in its newest generation of graphics cards including the NVIDIA RTX 6000 Ada Generation workstation graphics card and the GeForce RTX 4090 and 4080 graphics cards.
All the core components of Omniverse Enterprise received an update, including the Omniverse Kit SDK for building extensions, apps, micro-services and plug-ins featuring new templates; Omniverse Create, a reference app for composing large-scale USD-based worlds now with NVIDIA DLSS 2 and multi-view support; Omniverse View, another reference app for reviewing 3D scenes which has new collaborative features like markup, annotation, measure and simple navigation; and Omniverse Nucleus, the platform’s central database that now features IT management tools and self-service deployment instructions for the AWS cloud.
The update also delivers features and capabilities such as new Omniverse Connectors, layer-based live workflows, an improved user experience, and customization options including multi-view ports, editable hotkeys, lighting presets and more.
The Omniverse ecosystem has also expanded to include new connectors for Adobe Substance 3D Painter, Autodesk Alias, PTC Creo and Kitware’s Paraview.
Architecture firm Zaha Hadid Architects is one of the companies using Omniverse Enterprise to improve productivity. The firm specializes in singular building designs with a focus on creating transformative, cultural, corporate and residential spaces. It uses Omniverse to accelerate workflows and develop custom architectural design tools.
“We are working with NVIDIA to incorporate Omniverse as the connective infrastructure of our tech stack,” said Shajay Bhooshan, associate director at Zaha Hadid Architects, in an NVIDIA blog post announcing the new release. “We expect NVIDIA Omniverse to play a critical, supportive role to our efforts to create a platform that’s agnostic, version-controlled and a single source of truth for design data, as it evolves from idea to delivery.”
Another Omniverse Enterprise user is Mercedes-Benz. NVIDIA says the automaker is leveraging the platform to develop high-fidelity digital twins of the production process, expand real-time collaboration opportunities for a globally dispersed workforce, accelerate decision-making, identify opportunities to reduce waste, decrease energy consumption and enhance quality.
