Nexteer Automotive reports doubled EPS production numbers over the last three years.

Nexteer Automotive, a manufacturer of steering and driveline systems, recently reached a production milestone: the company announced the completion of its forty millionth electric power steering (EPS) system.
Electric Power Steering
Nexteer credits the production milestone to a growing global demand for EPS systems. In order to meet this demand, the company has doubled its EPS production numbers since January 2013, when it celebrated its 20 millionth EPS system.
According to Nexteer, increased EPS demand is due to the benefits such systems can offer. Nexteer’s systems use a combination of sensors, actuators, controllers and electric motors to provide what it claims is “reliable steering control in all driving conditions.” Further benefits result from enabling advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) features such as lane keeping, park assist, active damping, active return, pull compensation, road shake reduction, variable effort steering and stability control enhancements.
Perhaps the biggest benefit of EPS systems is the apparent environmental one. Nexteer claims its EPS systems can reduce fuel consumption by up to six percent and reduce CO2 emissions by up to 8 g/km.
The Next 40 Million
Nexteer’s EPS product line constitutes 62 percent of the company’s revenue, a growth of 22 percent from the first half of 2015. Nexteer has also stated that it supplies 90 percent of full size trucks in the U.S. market with its 12-volt EPS system.
Given the increasing demand for EPS systems, will we see the company’s 80 millionth EPS announcement before the end of next year?
