With three new ThinkStation desktops and five new ThinkPad laptops, there’s something for every engineer in Lenovo’s latest computer launch.
Lenovo’s 2023 engineering workstations have arrived. Today the company announced three new desktop workstations in the ThinkStation lineup and five new laptops in the ThinkPad P series. All the new computers will be available starting in May 2023.
The new desktop workstations are the ThinkStation P3 Tower, ThinkStation P3 Ultra and ThinkStation P3 Tiny. The new laptops are the ThinkPad P16 Gen 2, ThinkPad P1 Gen 6, ThinkPad P16v i, ThinkPad P14s i Gen 4 and ThinkPad P16s i Gen 2.
With the latest processors from Intel and NVIDIA, the new computers cover a wide range of performance requirements that should satisfy even the most demanding engineering users.
Lenovo’s Three New ThinkStations: Pick Your Size
Lenovo’s ThinkStation P3 trio offers a choice of desktop form factors, from towering to tiny. The biggest of the new computers is the P3 Tower, which measures 7.1 inches wide by 14.6 inches deep by 16.3 inches high (180 x 370 x 415 mm). It has a starting weight of 30 pounds (13.6 kg).

Next is the P3 Ultra at 3.4 x 8.7 x 7.9 inches (87 x 223 x 202 mm) with a starting weight of 3.96 pounds (1.8 kg). The smallest new desktop workstation is the P3 Tiny, measuring a slim 1.5 x 7.2 x 7 inches (37 x 182.9 x 179 mm). The P3 Tiny’s weight starts at 3.01 pounds (1.4 kg).

The bigger the chassis, the more power and performance it supports. The ThinkStation P3 Tower can be equipped with up to a 1100 watt power supply and supports the NVIDIA RTX 5500 24GB graphics card, up to 128GB of DDR5 memory and 24TB of storage across six drives.
The P3 Ultra supports up to a 300 watt power supply, the NVIDIA RTX 5500 16GB graphics card, 128GB of DDR5 memory and up to 9TB of storage. The P3 Tiny is also limited to a 300 watt power supply plus an NVIDIA T1000 graphics card, up to 64GB of DDR5 memory and up to 4TB of storage. All three new ThinkStations support 13th-Gen Intel Core processors up to the i9.
The New ThinkPad P Series Laptops
It was last year that Lenovo introduced the ThinkPad P16, a 16-inch mobile workstation that replaced the long-standing 15- and 17-inch P15 and P17 models. The new ThinkPad P16 Gen 2 succeeds it as the company’s top-of-the-line laptop, packed with 13th-Gen Intel Core HX-series processors and mobile graphics up to the NVIDIA RTX 5000 Ada Generation GPU. The P16 Gen 2 can be configured with a staggering 192GB of DDR5 memory and up to 8TB of PCIe Gen 5 storage.

Lenovo also updated its popular ThinkPad P1, a sleek yet powerful mobile workstation now entering its sixth generation. Weighing in at 3.92 pounds (1.78 kg), the P1 Gen 6 can be configured with 13th-Gen Intel Core H-series processors, NVIDIA RTX 5000 Ada or GeForce RTX 4090 graphics, up to 96GB of DDR5 memory and up to 8TB of PCIe Gen 4 storage. The laptop offers a 16-inch 3840×2400 pixel OLED touchscreen, Wi-Fi 6E and optional 4G LTE connectivity (a surprising step back from the 5G connectivity offered in the P1 Gen 5).

Next in the 2023 ThinkPad P Series is the new ThinkPad P16v i Gen 1, a 16-inch notebook that Lenovo says is designed to “narrow the value gap between entry and high-end workstations.” It includes 13th-Gen Intel H-series processors, up to the NVIDIA RTX 2000 Ada Generation mobile GPU, up to 96GB of DDR5 memory and up to 4TB of PCIe Gen 4 storage.

Finally, Lenovo announced the 14-inch ThinkPad P14s i Gen 4 and 16-inch ThinkPad P16s i Gen 2. We declared last year’s P14s Gen 3 as the best entry-level mobile workstation of 2022, and the refreshed model promises to be even better. Both the 14- and 16-inch laptops offer 13th-Gen Intel processors, graphics up to the NVIDIA RTX A500 GPU, up to 64GB of LPDDR5x memory and up to 2TB of PCIe Gen 4 storage. Lenovo says the P14s i Gen 4 and P16s i Gen 2 offer the longest battery lives of its 14- and 16-inch mobile workstations, respectively.

Lenovo has not yet announced the prices of the new desktops and laptops.
