Navigating the Future of Industry – INFOGRAPHIC

The Zurich Insurance Group has just published an infographic that outlines what they see as the changing landscape of industry in the US. Not surprisingly, 3D printing and low-cost CAD feature heavily in the story told by Zurich.

According to the authors, “New technologies for design and manufacturing will enable a vast array of both existing and previously unimagined goods to be produced not just ‘in America’ but ‘in the home’. For most of the decade, new technologies like 3D printing will seem a disappointment — fun for hobbyists, but not of practical value for entrepreneurs. By the end of the decade, however, that will change. Large companies will rethink their relationships with their customers as localized production tools and capabilities become increasingly ubiquitous. Homegrown ‘exporters’ will start to connect with ‘importers’ anywhere in the world as ‘scale out’ technology flattens supply chains. All the while, advanced techniques for manufacturing in factory settings will continue to enable a US revival in ‘scale up’ production as well.”

Zurich’s infographic is based on their comprehensive study, Growth Opportunities for the American Worker.
