Application Builder and Computational parts gets COMSOL and MSC their respective wins.
NASA Tech Briefs has just announced COMSOL 5.0 and MSC Apex as winners of their Readers’ Choice Product of the year award.

Though the COMSOL 5.0 application builder and COMSOL server license, the engineering community can share their simulations easier with suppliers, customers, and clients. Using as simulation expert’s model as a base, an application interface can be created so that anyone can assess the model. The expert can also include safety measures to ensure the application user will not input garbage data and get garbage output. The applications are shared then using the COMSOL server using a free windows based web client.
“Our goal with the release of COMSOL Multiphysics 5.0 and the Application Builder is to bring multiphysics simulation to a much wider audience than was previously possible … Being chosen as NASA Tech Briefs Product of the Year demonstrates that the Application Builder is being recognized as an innovative and game-changing product for the engineering community. We are greatly honored that NTB readers chose COMSOL 5.0 as one of the most significant products of the year,” Svante Littmarck, CEO and President of the COMSOL Group.
Computational parts allows users to share parts without risking IP.
As for MSC Apex, the computational parts feature of the packaged helps engineers perform their jobs more efficiently and better earned them the award. Computational parts can reduce the critical CAE modeling from days to hours. When sharing a part with a customer, the IP will also be protected. Additionally, MSC’s ability to predict product part and assembly issues early in the design cycle also helped them get the award.
“We are honored to be judged by the community that matters – engineers who design some of the most fantastic products for the planet and beyond,” said MSC Software President and CEO Dominic Gallello. “Reinventing how simulation is done took a tremendous effort by a very large, experienced, creative and committed team. These individuals never lost sight of the mission of dramatically accelerating the engineering process while making it easy and enjoyable for our users.”
The MSC and COMSOL first received product of the month nods from NASA Tech Briefs. All product of the month winners were then placed in a readers’ choice vote to find the most significant products.
Linda Bell, Editorial Director of NASA Tech Briefs, said “The significance of this award is that the winners are selected solely by the readers; the buyers and users of these products. The winners are the best of the best — the products that design engineers feel will help them do their jobs better and more efficiently.”
